Welcome to Cakely!

My name is Joy and I am so glad that you are here. I hope that you are inspired to bake a cake today as you browse through my ever growing range of unique cake tins. I am a Mum of four and so far I have made all of my children’s birthday cakes. It has been a tremendous learning curve, but always worth the effort – even when it doesn’t turn out exactly as I had planned. For me, making a cake is a special part of our birthday gift. It doesn’t need to be perfect for children to love their homemade cake. What I truly love though, is that first glance at their cake on birthday morning – the look of amazement and wonder and a smile of pride at having a very special birthday cake.

Cakes from a bakery or professional cake maker are lovely but there’s something so memorable and lovely about a cake that you made and decorated yourself, even if it is just from a packet mix (I find that children really love plain butter cakes with vanilla buttercream). There was one problem of making my own cakes though. They were really expensive to make. By the time I bought the cake tin, ingredients, icing bags, colours, piping tips, cake board and other decorative things, the cost really added up. Which is why I started this little business. I have a passion for creating beautiful cakes and would love to see others create impressive, homemade cakes too.

I’m here to encourage you to give cake decorating a go. One year, I asked my four year old son to pick any cake from the Women’s Weekly birthday cake book. He chose the carousel cake. In my opinion, this was the most difficult cake in the book! I learned a few things from that experience. First, never ask kids to pick any cake they like when you’re so new to cake making. Second, it is actually fine to ask them to pick any cake they like, because you will be challenged and learn so much that you will be thankful they picked that cake! They will of course be delighted to see their idea come to fruition too! So please enjoy browsing through our variety of cake tins, choose one (or get your child to pick one ;)), give it a go and see how capable you really are. You might surprise yourself.

Please let me know if there is anything that I can help you with. I’m on a cake decorating journey too and I look forward to learning along the way with you. My goal is to make it as easy and affordable as possible for you to make cakes that delight your children – cakes that they will remember forever.

You’ve got this!

Enjoy, learn, share!
